hello fresh review

This is an non-sponsored and unbiased review. I absolutely love HelloFresh. It has been a huge factor in teaching me how to cook. The step by step instructions are so easy to follow so someone like me with no cooking skills (when I first started cooking) can make some great dishes. Now in my own cooking, I can implement many of the same elements that I’ve learned from cooking HelloFresh recipes and apply them to other dishes.

The Basics

To sign up, you choose what kind of box you want, from meat and veggies, veggie, family friendly or low calorie. Choose the number of people 2 or 4. Then choose the number of recipes you want per week from 2-5. For 2 people, three recipes per week each serving costs $8.99. New customers get $80 off or $20 off your first four boxes. If you use my referral link, you will also get $40 off your order.

Additional Plan Options

Once you sign up, HelloFresh provides a variety of other options for recipes: veggie, family friendly, variety, calorie smart, quick & easy, seafood free, pork free, beef free, and pescatarian.

Then you can choose from 2-4 people 2-6 meals per week. You can also choose what day you want your box delivered. Additionally, if you go into cancel your plan, HelloFresh will give you options to change the frequency of your boxes. So maybe you only want your boxes every other week, every 3 weeks or every 4 weeks. You have the option to skip deliveries on a week by week basis. Say you’re on vacation one week, and you don’t need a delivery, you can choose to skip just that one week.

HelloFresh Sustainability

HelloFresh operates to reduce food waste by obtaining ingredients straight from the source farms. Then package directly shipped to your door. Since you only receive the amount of each ingredient that you will need for the recipe, you as a consumer create less food waste.

HelloFresh packages the ingredients with less plastic packaging than competitors. Every box delivered contains many recyclable materials, these include the box, insulating materials, ice packs, as well as the paper bags the ingredients for each meal comes in. Not only can you as the consumer recycle these packaging materials, but also HelloFresh sources these materials from recycled materials.

Since most recycling facilities do not accept plastic film to recycle from, HelloFresh lists a resource to locate a facility that provides you a location that you can recycle these materials. My local grocery store recycles plastic as a business, so they also have a separate receptacle for customers to bring their plastic grocery bags to be recycled. So, my suggestion is to rinse all plastic film products and include with your plastic grocery bags to be recycled.

Is it Worth it?

Every single recipes are delicious. I have yet to get one that I do not like. There are so many options to choose from each week. I usually just let it decide on my meals each week.

What I love about the meal service is that I don’t have to think about what I am eating for dinner. I can simply grab a recipe and the bag of ingredients; prep and cook a delicious meal. Another thing that I absolutely love is that it has taught me many cooking techniques. I like to use these techniques in other recipes I make. I have had the opportunity to cook with a variety of ingredients and spices.

I 100% recommend HelloFresh. Not only are they a company aiming towards sustainability, my favorite thing about it is there is never a question of “What’s for dinner?” Just pick one a cook, I don’t have to do as much grocery shopping. After using the service for so long, I have a general idea of portion sizes as well. So cooking other meals has been a breeze. I know how much to buy so I don’t have a ton of waste. All of these things are invaluable to me and make the service worth it.
