How to Begin Your Fitness Journey

As we enter the new year, we set new goals. We aim to be better versions of ourselves and set new fitness goals. We were super excited to get to the latest version of ourselves, but then we quit after a month. Why? Because we set our sights too high and take on too much too fast to achieve those fitness goals. Then we get discouraged and give up. Trust me; I've been there. But over time, I've learned that starting small is essential to beginning any fitness journey. Here are some tips for successfully beginning your fitness journey to create healthy and active lifestyle habits.

I do these tips and tricks whenever I am not as diligent about my fitness. Like most people, I go in cycles where I am all about my fitness and then unmotivated to work out. Throughout the past year, though, I have been out of my fitness routine because of my asthma, so any kind of activity just hasn’t been possible. Finally, I feel better and can return to working on my fitness journey. So, here are the strategies I use to get back into a solid fitness routine.

Set an Intention

When you begin your fitness journey, you want to determine your intention. Why do you want to start your fitness journey? Everyone has different reasons for jumping into fitness. Choosing your choice makes you more likely to stick to your new lifestyle. This is key to jumpstarting your new healthy habits.

My intention for beginning my fitness journey is to be healthy. I want to maintain and improve my mobility and muscle mass as I age. But I have a few other reasons I love fitness: I enjoy it, it’s a huge stress reliever, and I want to look good. The main reasons I began my fitness journey are to be physically and mentally healthy and look good. There is nothing wrong with looking good, but dive deeper and determine if you have other motivations to start your fitness journey. You may be surprised that you may have more reasons than you think.

I find that quote so inspiring. Hard work will pay off in the future, but you also have to live in the moment, and I feel like taking care of yourself is doing both. You are doing good for yourself now as well as for your future self.
