My Active Life - Stacey - An Introduction

I grew up in Denver, Colorado, and moved to Durango, Colorado, at the end of 2018. My family moved to Durango at the end of 2013, so I moved to the small town to be closer to them….. or so I thought…..

I never got a chance to visit my family in Durango after they moved. I was in a toxic marriage, and every time I mentioned that I wanted to see my family, he always had some specific reason why we didn’t have time to go. By the time I got to visit, I had ended things with him and left that toxic relationship—one of the many best decisions of my life.

After having visited the small mountain town several times in 2018, I fell in love with the atmosphere, accessibility to hiking and trails, and being closer to my family. I moved to Durango at the end of 2018; it has been a wonderful place to live.

What I love the most are the summers in Durango. I can go to one of the many hiking trails in town for a quick day hike, drive a short distance for a more extended all-day long hiking, or even a backpacking trip. When I lived in Denver, I didn’t have easy access to the types of hiking trails that I do in Durango. I would have to drive hours to get there to get to any decent tracks. It makes it so much easier to do the activities I love the most.

Another thing that I love about Durango is just the overall atmosphere. There are trees, greenery, and mountains all around, rather than large buildings and cars rushing around with the hustle and bustle of city life. I do not miss that atmosphere at all!

Since I’ve lived in Durango, I’ve had the opportunity to go on several overnight backpacking trips and several short day hikes. So far, there has not been a disappointing sight

. Everything I’ve done makes me love the city more and more. I look forward to many more years and opportunities to do the things I love.

Do something today, that your future self will thank you for

I find that so inspiring. Hard work will pay off in the future, but you also have to live in the moment, and I feel like taking care of yourself is doing both. You are doing good for yourself now as well as for your future self.
