Disney Cruise Line’s Fantasy/Dream
Disney Cruise Line is a niche cruise line with many unique things that Disney does differently than other cruise lines. Check out my blog post about what DCL does differently.
This blog post will explore DCL’s oldest cruise ships, the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream. Next week, we will discuss the Disney Wish and the Disney Treasure. Check out my blog post on the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder.
I have been on the Disney Wonder and the Disney Fantasy. One day, I want to sail on all of the Disney Cruise Line Ships.
Disney Cruise Line is well known for its black, dark blue, gold details, red funnels, and whimsical ship horns, which play the classic “When You Wish Upon a Star.” Newer ships have a wider range of Disney songs on the ship horns. DCL was the first cruise ship to have the iconic yellow of Mickey’s shoes for the lifeboats. Disney Cruise Line is known for its stern characters, which include a giant statue of a Disney character at the back of the ship by the ship’s name.
The Disney Cruise Line features a variety of activities, such as life-deck party shows, fireworks at sea, live Broadway-style shows, first-run films, lounges and deck areas for kids and tweens, pools, a fitness center, a spa, adults-only lounges, and so much more!
DCL's dining experience is unlike any other on a cruise ship. Each ship features three main dining restaurants themed after various Disney characters. Dining on a Disney cruise, you will be assigned a rotation so that you will dine at every restaurant at least once during your cruise.
The Disney Dream was the third ship added to Disney Cruise Line Fleet. It set sail in January 20011 and was refurbished in September 2024. With 14 public decks, 1250 staterooms, and a crew of 1458, the Disney fantasy holds between 2500 and 4000 passengers.
In the latest dry dock refurbishment in 2024, some exciting new elements were added to the Disney Dream. A dry dock refurbishment is when a cruise ship goes into a shipyard, usually in Europe, for routine maintenance or renovations. These dry dock areas allow for the ship to remain supported while draining all of the water in the dock space to allow for 100% dry access of the ship. Some significant elements added include:
The new two-story funnel suite is themed with Disney’s Fantasia, keeping with the continuity of the stern and bow characters.
Expansion of the Concierge Lounge, complete with a new space inspired by Disney’s Hercules.
All youth spaces were renovated, and with the new funnel suite, Edge and Vibe (tween and teen spaces) were moved to deck 5.

After some sorcery, the ship’s signature red funnel has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind penthouse at sea featuring décor inspired by the 1940 Disney classic Fantasia and its beloved scene, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”
Delight in gilded features that reflect the ship’s art deco motif and the awesome powers of Sorcerer Mickey, replete with celestial-inspired décor, a carpet that recalls flowing water and a chandelier expressive of Sorcerer Mickey famously controlling the ocean waves. The Disney Fantasy, the fourth ship to join the Disney Cruise Line Fleet., had its maiden voyage in March 2012 and was refurbished in 2017. With 14 public decks, 1250 staterooms, and a crew of 1458, the Disney Magic holds between 2500 and 4000 passengers.
The Disney Fantasy is scheduled for another dry dock in the Fall of this year (2025.) I guess they will add the tower suite and other changes they made to the Disney Dream.
Dining
Royal Court
A Fairytale Wonderland
Indulge in a regal feast fit for royalty at this enchanting restaurant inspired by beloved Disney Princess films—including Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast. Broadway-quality shows with original scores and choreography bring storytelling to life in such hit productions as the hilarious Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular, the sentimental Disney’s Believe and the heartwarming Frozen, A Musical Spectacular.
Disney’s Believe is also on the Disney Dream, and Frozen, A Musical Spectacular is also on the Disney Wonder.

Because the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy are sister ships, they have a lot of similarities. So this is everything that is the same for both ships.
