5 Ways I Stay Motivated

Starting and staying motivated to achieve health and fitness goals can be challenging. Whether you want to lose weight, build muscle, or live a healthier lifestyle, committing to these goals is not easy.

Motivation comes and goes. You cannot always rely on having the motivation to work toward your fitness goals. However, a few things can help you stay on track.

First, get started. Sometimes, the hardest part is taking that first step. Once you do, it becomes easier to keep going.

Another key is to set a routine and stick to it. This can help you build momentum and make progress towards your goals.

Also, remember why you started in the first place. Whether it's to improve your health or feel more confident, keeping this motivation in mind can help you stay on track.

Finally, remember that the effort you put in today will benefit your future self. Make healthy choices a part of your daily routine to consistently achieve your health and fitness goals.

Achieving health and fitness goals can be challenging, but there are ways to stay motivated. Take that first step, set a routine, and remember why you started. Consistently making healthy choices will benefit your future self, so make it a habit. For more tips, read on.

  1. Get started

    This one seems obvious, but getting started is step one. You have this bout of motivation. So run with it. Get to the gym, grocery store, or whatever you need to get started.

    There is no reason why you need to play the game of “I’ll begin on Monday.” How many times have you said that?

    How many Mondays have you wanted to get started, but then every time that Monday passes by without getting started?

    The first and hardest step is just getting started. Start today or even tomorrow. Take advantage of the motivation you have right now. Don’t wait until Monday and risk that motivation being gone.

  2. Set a routine and follow it.

    Decide how many days you are going to work out. Are you going to work for 3 or 4 days? Determine how often, set it in your schedule, and follow it. You have an appointment with yourself; stick to it.

    Avoid jumping into a 7-day-a-week schedule, going 0-60 in 0.01 seconds. This has the potential to set you up for failure. Start small and think about how often you can commit to working out.

    Once you have a routine set, follow it whether you’re motivated or not.

  3. Remember why I started in the first place.

    Think about the reasons why you started. You may not be motivated at every given moment, but you were motivated at some point when you started.

    During moments when you’re feeling less motivated, remember the reasons why you started.

  4. Remember, my future self will thank me.

    No matter what, working out while I am young will benefit me when I am old. I will build muscle strength and mass to help offset the natural muscle loss that happens naturally with age, especially as a woman.

    Overall mobility and balance decrease with age, but working out when you’re young will help significantly to reduce how quickly you lose those things.

    My mental health is significantly improved when I take the time to work and improve my physical health. The days I am less motivated and do not want to work out are when I know my mental health is low, and I NEED to work out. This will avoid a spiral to a consistent negative head space and potentially completely fall out of my routine.

  5. Make it a habit.

    A habit is something that you do without thinking about it. So, If you make it a habit to work out on the routine you have set, you will eventually fall into it without even thinking. You will continue that habit even if you are not motivated.

  6. Bonus tip:

    The place of being uncomfortable to see progress/growth. Commitment, patience, and consistency are the keys to achieving fitness goals. It is called a fitness journey for a reason. It takes time and consistency to make progress. You WILL not see significant progress in a week, 30 days, and, in most cases, maybe not even six months. Enjoy the journey and do the work needed to achieve your fitness goals.

    Bottom Line:

    Starting and staying motivated can be tricky if you want to achieve health and fitness goals. But don't worry; you can use your current motivation to get started and avoid waiting until Monday. Create a routine that works for you and stick to it, even when you don't feel like it. Keep in mind the reasons why you started and how making healthy choices will benefit your future self. Commit to the journey and make it a habit, as progress takes time and consistency. Remember, patience and consistency are essential keys to achieving fitness goals.
